The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe to the defrauders, 1 who, when people measure for them, take full measure, 2 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 the Day when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 The record is a sealed text. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 those who deny the Day of Judgement. 11 No one rejects it except the sinful transgressors 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 No indeed! On that Day they will be screened off from seeing their Lord, 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 (It is) a marked Book, 20 Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss; 22 upon couches gazing; 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine, sealed, 25 The seal thereof will be of musk. And to this end let the aspirers aspire 26 a wine whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery); 30 and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. 31 And when they saw them, they said: verily these are the strayed ones. 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 as they (recline) upon their couches and gaze (around them). 35 Have those who deny the truth [not] been paid back for their deeds? 36
