The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
