In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 'O Zachariah, We give thee good tidings of a boy, whose name is John. No namesake have We given him aforetime.' 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
