He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
