Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn; 1 And the ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
