He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
