The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
