The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?- 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. 4 Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able. 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 By oath of the sky from which comes down the rain. 11 and the earth, bursting forth with plants! 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 and is no idle tale. 14 Indeed the disbelievers carry out their evil schemes. 15 And I (too) will make a scheme. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. 17
