He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
