And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
