The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, 1 and the Book inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 And the elevated canopy 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 none can avert that. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
