The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15
