The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the swollen sea 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
