Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
