The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
