He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
