Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 You and your fathers? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 no caring friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
