The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 it will be a hard day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
