۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
