Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said, “Do you see these (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor a true friend; 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
