[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
