The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said, "This is the she-camel - one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn." 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
