Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
