He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
