Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
