Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
