The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
