The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 About which they differ? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
