Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
