The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
