And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, 145 We made a plant of gourd grow up for him. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 Does He prefer sons to daughters? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 neither you nor what you worship 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah." 166 What though they would say, 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 But they disbelieve in it (the Koran), but soon they shall know! 170 We have already given Our promise to Our Messengers 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
