The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 and by the Book in lines 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and the sea swarming, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
