The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
