The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
