(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
