He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and purified. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
