(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
