Have you heard the story of Abraham's honoured guests? 24 When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace, [you are] a people unknown. 25 He went quietly to his wife and returned to his guests with a fat, roasted calf. 26 and laid it before them, saying: “Will you not eat?” 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: fear not. And they gave him the tidings of a youth knowing. 28 Then his wife came forward, crying and beating her brow. She said, "I am surely a barren, old woman." 29 'Such, says your Lord' they replied: 'He is the Wise, the Knower' 30 ۞ 'Messengers' said he (Abraham), 'what is your errand' 31 They said: Lo! we are sent unto a guilty folk, 32 so that we may bring down upon them a shower of stones of clay, 33 "Marked as from thy Lord for those who trespass beyond bounds." 34 So We evacuated everyone who was a believer there, 35 but We found only one Muslim house. 36 And We left therein a sign for those who fear the afflictive torment. 37 AND IN [the story of Pharaoh and] Moses, too, [We left the same message: for] when We sent him unto Pharaoh with [Our] manifest authority, 38 and he turned away in [the pride of] his power and said, "A sorcerer [is this Moses,] or a madman!" 39 So We seized him and his hosts and hurled them into the sea and he was blamable. 40 And in (the tribe of) A'ad (there is a portent) when we sent the fatal wind against them. 41 which spared nothing of what it came upon, but caused [all of] it to become like bones dead and decayed. 42 There is also evidence (of the Truth) in the story of the Thamud, who were told to enjoy themselves for an appointed time. 43 But they disobeyed the command of their Lord; so they were destroyed by a thunderbolt, and they could only gape, 44 So they were not able to stand, nor could they help themselves. 45 Before all these We destroyed the people of Noah: they were a wicked people. 46
