The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except those who pray, 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
