The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
