The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
