۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
