The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
