The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
