He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
