The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
