The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
