The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
