He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
