The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
